- Polish copper (maybe brass too?) with half a
lemon dipped in salt.
- Fix a leaky vase by coating the inside with paraffin and letting it harden
-To make a screw hold tightly, dip it in glue before replacing.
-Keep a screwdriver from slipping by putting
chalk on the blade
- Remove grout mildew by scrubbing with ammonia
- To Locate a Stud in the wall, move a pocket compass along the wall. When the needle moves, usually the stud will be located at that point. Studs are usually located 16 inches apart.
- For tile or granite floors, if you're using a steam moper
add vinegar to the water

When ironing cotton use a couple of teaspoons of salt in the spray.The iron will glide on the cloth.
-Left is loose and right is tight- Remove dried paint from leather goods (i.e. a handbag or a pair of shoes) with hair spray. Put some spray on the affected area and then wipe vigorously with a wash cloth or paper tower (toilet paper works OK, too). Some tough stains may require you to repeat this.
- Help remove cigarette smoke from a closed room, wave a wet towel around. it will absorb at least some of the smell as well.
- You can remove furniture indentations from a carpet by putting an old towel over it and running a steam iron over it for about a minute. You'll have to do this more than once for a less fluffy carpet, though.
- If you want to remove cigarette smoke from a plastic surface, dab it with white vinegar and then water.
